How to Edit Email Templates.

In the MSG91 platform, you can edit email templates to customize the content and design of your messages. However, editing is restricted to templates that are in a Draft state. This ensures that approved and live templates remain consistent and unchanged.

Once a template is Approved, the direct Edit option is disabled to prevent accidental changes that could affect live communications.

Editing a Draft Template

Templates that are in "Draft" status can be freely modified.

  1. Locate the template you wish to edit from your template list.

  2. If the status is Draft, you will see an Edit button (as shown in the reference image).

  3. Click Edit to open the template editor, where you can modify the HTML code, subject, and other settings.

Working with an Approved Template

When a template has been Approved, the Edit button is no longer available. Instead, you are presented with two powerful options to create a new, editable version of the template.

Option 1: Copy as Version

This option creates a new Draft version of the same template. It is ideal for making iterative improvements or updates.

  • When to use it: You want to update the existing approved template with minor changes.

  • The result: A new draft version is created under the original template ID. Once you approve this new version, it will become the active one.

Option 2: Copy as Template

This option creates a completely new, separate template based on the approved one. The original template remains unchanged.

  • When to use it: You want to use the approved design as a starting point for a different purpose (e.g., a seasonal promotion or a different audience) without affecting the original.

  • The result: A brand new template is created with a new Template ID. This new template will start in a "Draft" state and can be edited freely.
